Scotland’s main crops since the 1500s

Oats have been one of Scotland’s main crops since the 1500s, primarily because they grow so well in our wet climate. However, for a long time – basically since Whiskey was legalised back in 1933 – oats here in Scotland have been playing second fiddle to barley as well as wheat. It’s a bit of a shame, because oats are amazing! There is so much that you can do with it, which is why it is called a ‘super grain’ or ‘super food’. Of course, we love oats and are very excited about all things to do with oats. So far, our Brose Oats are looking beautiful. With the 20 tonnes we hope to yield, we’ll be coming up with some additional products to compliment our oat drinks. Stay tuned!
